Incident at MIRAMICHI NB (CYCH)

Summary

2000-05-16: NWA65 DC10 Declared an Emergency due Smoke detected by the flight attendant in the Aft Galley. Flight diverted to Halifax. Landed Halifax 1725. Passengers deplanned normally. TSB case Closed. TSB file # A00A0074. Update: Maintenance were unable to duplicate the smell of smoke but suspected that there may be a problem with one of the ovens. Electical power was removed from all the galleys and the aircraft was ferried to Detroit. On descent into Detrpoit the smell of smoke reappeared and this time maintenance were able to isolate it to the air conditioning packs. The pack filters were replaced and the aircraft returned to service.
