Incident at PORT HAWKESBURY NS (CYPD)

Summary

2000-04-27: CGAWL C182 enroute Sydney to Shearwater reported a "Blown Engine" with oil on the windscreen. Pilot declared an emergency and diverted to Port Hawkesbury. CGAWL landed 1507z with ERS standing by. No other aircraft affected. Aircraft was towed off the runway. RCC/TSB advised. TSB case closed file # A00A0068. Update. The engine maintained Oil pressure and some power until within about 3.5 miles from Port Hawkesbury airport. The pilot was able to maintain an altitude of 5000 feet. The engine then failed completely and the pilot preformed a Dead-stick landing. The engine was 1400 hours into a 2000 hour maintenance cycle. There were no prior indications of impending problems with the engine. The pilot believes that an Engine Valve failed. More info to follow.
