Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2000-04-18: CNX 7620 B727 landed on runway 24 at Halifax Intl at 0708z. After landing and taxiing to the IMP/Shell/Execaire apron pilot called and reported a "left main brake fire" and requested assistance. Crash alarm was activated at that time (0718z) and ERS was on scene at 0720z. The Duty Manager was advised after ERS was notified. The ACC Shift Manager was advised at 0728z by phone. There was no impact on operations. Situation reported under control by Duty Manager at 0745z. TSB Case Closed TSB file # A00A0063. Update: ERS was on scene within 2 minutes of being called. However, one crew member had already extinguished the fire with a hand held fire extinguisher. The crew reported that there was nothing unusual about the braking action during the landing roll and subsequent taxi to the ramp. Maintenance personnel are replacing the brakes and both tires.
