Incident at Halifax Intl

Summary

2000-04-12: CDN946 A320 IFR Toronto to Halifax on final for runway 15 flight experienced Severe Turbulence and executed missed approach and subsequently diverted to Bangor. After re-establishing contact with Moncton ACC, pilot advised that he had almost lost control of the aircraft due to the Severe Turbulence. Pilot had been advised of the possibility of turbulence after approach clearance had been issued, just prior to changeover to tower frequency. TSB Case Closed with more to follow. TSB Update: The Operator indicated that the aircraft encountered significant windshear on short final and it was the Windshear that caused the crew to overshoot. The aircraft's Automatic Communication and Reporting System (ACARS) did not indicate that a severe Turbulence Maintenance check was necessary and none has been carried out.
