Incident at Gander Oceanic

Summary

2000-04-10: VIR28 B747 enroute Orlando to Gatwick via 56N50W 0444z estimating 57N40W 0521 at FL350. At 0516z advised shutting down #1 engine and descending to FL280. Traffic was a DC10 at FL340 2 minutes ahead. VIR28 followed contingency procedures offsetting 30 miles right and descending.VIR28 elected to continue to destination and given a clearance at FL290 on original routing.
