Incident at North Atlantic Ocean

Summary

2000-03-21: 5 A/C involved. BAW4 FL450 B FL600 "SN" track 4554/050 2019Z 4810/040 2103Z 4926/030 2145Z. At 2041Z at approximately 045W, A/C reported losing oil pressure on #3 engine and shut it down. Crew declared an emergency and requested immediate descent to FL280. ATC advised that they were unable to clear the flight level requested due to traffic. A/C commenced descent and followed contingency procedures and broadcasted inentions using PAN PAN. ATC passed traffic to BAW4. BAW4 cancelled emergency status and continued to destination at FL280 MO950. Possible traffic was BAW3535 FL350 48N040W 2023Z 46N050W 2123Z; EIN107 FL370 48N040W 1955Z 46N050W 2058Z; AAL131 FL310 47N040W 2008Z 45N050W 2108Z; and AAL147 FL320 47N040W 2024Z 45N050W 2122Z. A00A0047: March 21, 2000: TSB REPORTED THAT BRITISH AIRWAYS CONCORDE, FLIGHT NUMBER BAW4 FROM JFK TO HEATHROW, REPORTED SHUTTING DOWN #3 ENGINE DUE TO LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND REQUESTED IMMEDIATE DESCENT CLEARANCE TO FL 280. ATC ADVISED UNABLE CLEARANCE DUE TO TRAFFIC. BAW4 COMMENCED DESCENT AND FOLLOWED CONTINGENCY PROCEDURES BROADCASTING INTENTIONS USING "PAN PAN". ATC PASSED TRAFFIC TO BAW4. BAW4 LEVELLED AT 280, CANCELLED EMERGENCY STATUS, AND CONTINUED TO DESTINATION AT FL280 AND M0.95.
