Incident at Saint John NB

2000-02-16: ACA653 CL600 departing Saint John NB taxiied to position Runway 05 and received IFR clearance from Moncton Centre via the Saint John FSS who also passed information on CGJUF C172 operating in the circuit for runway 32. Following this contact the FSS became engaged in communications with a Coast Guard Aircraft operating in the Saint John Harbour area. The communications lasted approximately 1 minute. ACA653 then came on frequency and reported that they were starting the take-off roll. The FSS advised ACA653 that CGJUF was on final for runway 32. ACA653 rejected the take off and CGJUF made a right turn to avoid crossing the departure path for runway 05. CGJUF reportedly made an advisory broadcast of turning Final for runway 32 but the crew of ACA653 advised that they did not hear this transmission. CGJUF was not advised of ACA653 as traffic.
