Incident at Halifax


2000-02-16: AAL56 MD11 enroute Miami to London diverted to Halifax due to a passenger medical emergency. Aircraft landed with medical assistance on standby. TSB Case Closed. Update: At approximately 70 miles West of St. John's the crew requested clearance to Halifax and that an Ambulance meet the aircraft. Gander Center advised the crew that St. John's was closer but the crew replied that their aircraft type did not have authorization to land in St. John's The flight was then cleared to divert to Halifax and landed at 0508z.
