Incident at 75 nm NW Goose Bay

Summary

2000-02-09: 2000A0072. ICE783 B757 Cargo flight enroute Keflavik to New York was 75 nm NW of Goose Bay when the Main Cargo Area Fire Warning light illuminated. The crew declared an emergency and were given a clearance to Goose Bay. During the first approach to runwauy 08 the crew carried out a missed approach because they were high and fast. While circling around for the second approach the warning light extinguished. The aircraft landed without incident on the second approach with ERS in position. An examination of the aircraft did not reveal any evidence of smoke or fire. TSB file # A00A0019
