Incident at Sydney NS (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)


2000-02-09: 2000A0059. CME111 PA31 landed on rwy 25 at Charlottetown and shortly after reported they had a flat tire on the left main gear, and were unable to remove the aircraft from the runway. Runway 07/25 closed for a short period. Only impact, 1 VFR had to land on runway 01. TSB Update: The left main tire went flat. The left Brake had frozen during the In Flight and when the wheel failed to Spin Up on Touchdown, the tire burst. TSB file # A00A0013. Update: Maintenance found that the tire which had low time in service had worn completely through in one location but that the wheel was free to rotate. The tire and wheel assemble was replaced and the brakes were found to be serviceable during brake applications. No disassembly or further examination of the brakes were carried out. It was reported that a strong left crosswind existed during the landing and light snow had been falling throughout the morning at the departure airport. The runway conditions were recorded to be 80 percent bare and dry 20 percent light snow covered. The Ramp conditions were recorded as 60 percent bare and dry 40 percent light snow covered up to a depth of one half inch. TSB file # A00A013
