Incident at Deer Lake NF

Summary

2000-01-18: ARN8823 DH8 parked overnight on the Ramp at Deer Lake. At aprx 0810 local an Airconsol Heating Unit was approaching the aircraft from the rear when it collided with the aircraft. Aircraft sustained structural damage. Investigators enroute to determine extend of damage. Report on file with Airport Manager Deer Lake. Nil TSB Update: After Inspection by an Air Nova AME and discussion with maintenance control, technical services engineer, and flight operations, it was determined that a ferry flight would be appropriate. Ferry flight authorisation called in before flight. A temporary repair was made for an unpressurized ferry flight to the Halifax base for complete repair. Damage was a small triangular perforation in the skin - no damage to any structure or members. Aircraft now back in service. MAM MAB plan to do a follow up Safety presentation on site.
