Incident at Fredericton NB


2000-01-19: ARN854 DH8 landing Fredericton reported Shutdown one engine and requested CFR on stand by for landing. No emergency declared. Flight landed without further incident. TSB Case Closed. Update: Maintenance discovered Oil on the cowling and nacelle area. The leak was isolated to the Oil Cooler P/N 28E99-7. There was no obvious crack present on the surface of the Oil Cooler. However the AME suspected a crack was present on the Oil Cooler Core. The unit was replaced. The engine inspected and ground run before the aircraft was reurned to service. The Oil Cooler had accumulated 9097 cycles to a total of 10973 hours since new and has been sent to the vendor for repair. TSB File # A00A0003 Update: Low oil was reported causing decision to shut engine down. Upon investigation, it was a bad oil cooler (blew). Replacement was carried out. Company unable to find any evidence that there is a significant trend involved regarding the cooler in question. SDR has been submitted. Report on file with MAH Moncton.
