Incident at 30 NM S of Fort McMurray, AB

1999-10-22: The crew of CDR 1382, a DHC-8 enroute from Fort McMurray (YMM) to Edmonton (YEG), reported a hydraulic problem approximately 30 nm south of YMM. The pilot was unable to get the gear up, but requested to proceed on course to YEG. CDR 1382 landed safely on Runway 30 at 0252Z. The nature of the gear problem is not known. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE M. & M. reported that the crew indicated that on the gear up selection out of YMM, the #2 hydraulic pressure was fluctuating and the quantity was dropping. After the gear was up, the pressure stabilized, the quantity stopped decreasing with one quart remaining, the main gear was up, the nose gear was down and the #2 hydraulic isolate caution light was on. After consulting with MCON via the YMM agent, the decision was made to continue on to YEG.The landing was uneventful and YEG CAIL maintenance found the nose gear drag strut actuator supply line leaking. They installed a temporary line which repaired the leak but due there is no equipment in YEG to swing the gear the aircraft was ferried gear down to YYC in order to complete repairs. The operator will submit an SDR to Transport Canada.
