Incident at 80 NM E of Winnipeg, MB

1999-11-08: C-GEAS, a Beech King Air, was enroute to Winnipeg from Thunder Bay at FL220 and was 80 NM east of Winnipeg when the crew requested CFR due to a cracked inner windscreen. The aircraft landed without further incident at 0027Z. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE M. & M. reported that the pilot's inner glass cracked (spider-webbed). The operator's DOM contacted PPG (glass supplier) and apparently, the inner layer is debonding from outer layer and placing additional load on the glass. The inner glass is the structural member to this windshield. PPG has come up with an improvement for the manufacturing process, but is still waiting for approval from the aircraft manufacturer (Raytheon) to proceed. Currently, there are no AD's or service information concerning this windshield.
