Incident at WHITEHORSE/ ERIK NIELSEN INTL (CYXY) (Incursion - runway - pedestrian)

Summary

2000-04-06: At 2321Z an unauthorized person was observed walking across Runway 01 at Whitehorse International Airport. The firehall was advised at 2325Z. Firehall personnel intercepted the person and informed him of the hazards of being on an active runway. There were no delays. OPI - Aerodrome Safety UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the Whitehorse Airport Supervisor of Safety and Security was aware of the CADORS and stated that further to the discussions with the individual, the site will continue to monitor airside safety incidents at the airport and will continue to emphasize airport safety in ongoing discussions with the airport tenants. RECOMMENDATIONS: If the site's continued monitoring does not show a decrease in this type of CADORS, it is recommended that the operator conduct an overall review of airside access and airside activities with a general goal of reducing these occurrences.
