Incident at 50 NM S of Fort Chipewyan, AB

Summary

1999-10-05: C-FKAM, a BAe 31, was on a scheduled flight from Fort Chipewyan to Fort McMurray and the crew had just levelled off at 17,000 feet 50 miles south of Fort Chipewyan. When the crew adjusted the power levers, the left engine began to surge and would not respond to control imputs. The engine was shut down and an uneventful single engine landing was completed at Fort McMurray. Maintenance will advised TSB when the cause has been determined. OPI - System Safety
