Accident at Kozak Lake, MB (5815N - 9749W)

1999-09-16: The pilot of C-FXFO, a DHC-3 Otter, was transporting 5 hunters to a camp at Nicholson Lake when the a/c experienced an engine malfunction. The pilot made a forced landing on Kozak Lake and the occupants were able to exit the a/c before the engine caught fire and eventually consumed the a/c. A Twin Otter was dispatched to pick up the occupants, but this a/c sustained a damaged float on landing and returned to its base. The occupants spent the night in the bush and were scheduled to be picked up this morning. The reason for the engine failure is not known. TSB is waiting for additional information from the operator.
