Accident at Sundre, AB


1999-09-21: The pilot of C-GZCP, a Cessna 150, was on a VFR flight from Red Deer to Sundre and on arrival at Sundre, the a/c landed hard, bounced into the air and landed on the nose gear, which collapsed. The extent of the damage is not known and the pilot was not reported as being injured. TSB has been advised. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that the student pilot was making her first cross-country flight. The approach to the runway at Red Deer was made at high speed and on the initial touchdown, the a/c bounced. On the attempt at recovery, the a/c bounced a second time and a third time on the nosegear. The nosegear structure failed and the a/c came to a stop on the runway after receiving substantial damage. The pilot was not hurt. The pilot will receive additional training on recovery techniques during a bounced landing.
