Incident at 61 NM N of The Pas, MB

Summary

1999-09-09: SGK 335, a Cessna 414, was proceeding northbound IFR from The Pas (YQD) to Pukatawagan (ZFG) at 6,000 feet and was 61 miles north of YQD when the pilot advised Winnipeg FSS that he was getting moderate icing and had to descend. Information was relayed from Winnipeg ACC through the FSS to the effect that SGK 335 was overhead a NOTAMed fire corridor capped at 4,200 feet MSL. The pilot was informed that ATC was unable to issue a clearance for lower altitude and that descent was at pilot's discretion. The flight arrived ZFG safely at 1928Z. OPI - System Safety
