Incident at Iqaluit, NU

1999-09-15: On departure from Kattiniq / Donaldson airstrip on an IFR flight to Rouyn-Noranda, the crew of C-GJLN, a B737 reported that they could not retract the landing gear. They requested clearance to Iqaluit, where the a/c landed safely at 2250Z. No other a/c were inconvenienced. The nature of the gear problem is not known. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing (Ontario Region) UPDATE M. & M. Ontario reported that the cause of the nose gear not fully up and locked was ice built up on the gravel deflector at the bottom of the nose gear. The ice was a result of slush on the runway when the aircraft landed and took off from Katiniq. The problem was corrected after the accumulated ice was cleaned and proven by ground test.
