Incident at Winnipeg, MB

Summary

1999-08-27: CAV 8510, a HS 748, departed Winnipeg at 1019Z and was 23 miles north when the pilot advised he had an engine fire indication. The fire bell and light activated on the number 1 engine, so the crew discharged the fire bottles and secured the engine. The flight returned to the airport, landing safely on Runway 18 at 1041Z. Fuel on board 8,000 lbs. SOB 30 pax plus 3 crew. The reason for the fire indication is not yet known. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that company maintenance discovered a faulty fire wire control box.
