Incident at Winnipeg, MB

Summary

1999-08-26: C-GJDA, a DA-20 training a/c, departed from Runway 18 at Winnipeg International Airport on a local flight and when the a/c was 2 miles east, the pilot reported an oil pressure problem and would be returning to land. The a/c landed safely on Runway 31 with ERS on standby. No other a/c were inconvenienced. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE TSB reported that the engine RPM began to surge and did so on two occasions. The engine instruments all read normal except for the RPM gauge, which showed the increased RPM. The operator suspects that air was trapped in the propeller hub and piston assembly. The a/c is currently being inspected.
