Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE) (Incursion - runway - vehicle)

Summary

1999-08-24: Two tow trucks and a motorbike were observed west of Runway 33 at Saskatoon Airport, 1000 feet north of the threshold of Runway 33, removing debris after an airshow. There had been no prior approval or co-ordination with Tower. None of the vehicles were in radio contact with the Tower. The Tower is not sure how they got out there but the vehicles were observed crossing the runway when leaving the work area, without making radio contact with the Tower. OPI - Aerodrome Safety UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the Airport Operations Manager is aware of the incident. Reports were submitted to him by persons involved.The incident took place following a airshow at the airport. Security for the airshow was hired by the private firm that sponsored the airshow. The airport will work with this firm to ensure that security personnel have adequate training and understand their role at future events.
