Incident at Thompson, MB (Incursion - runway - animal)

Summary

1999-08-25: THE CREW OF SGK 323, AN EMB-110 BANDEIRANTE, REJECTED THEIR TAKE-OFF ON RUNWAY 05 AT THOMPSON DUE TO A SMALL DOG THAT WAS OBSERVED CROSSING THE RUNWAY. AIRPORT MAINTENANCE RESPONDED AND REPORTED THEY HAD A DOG IN CUSTODY. NO OTHER A/C WERE INCONVENIENCED. OPI - AERODROME SAFETY UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that Thompson Airport has a Wildlife Control Program in effect which includes daily inspections of the airport property for the presence of any animals which could disrupt aircraft operations. Animals as such are promptly destroyed and/or removed from the vicinity of the movement areas. Airport staff were unable to capture this dog but did chase it from the airport property and observed it to be wearing a collar. Local radio station announcements are being made in an attempt to locate the dog's owner.
