Incident at 80 NM N of Winnipeg, MB

Summary

1999-08-05: PAG 111, A METRO II, WAS APPROXIMATELY 80 NM NORTH OF WINNIPEG (CYWG) WHEN THE PILOT INFORMED ATC THAT THE A/C HAD EXPERIENCED A LIGHTNING STRIKE. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS NOT ENCOUNTERING ANY PROBLEMS BUT HE WISHED TO RETURN TO CYWG. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DID NOT REQUIRE ANY EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT. THE A/C LANDED SAFELY ON RWY 31 AT 2100Z. NO OTHER A/C WERE INCONVENIENCED. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that the lightning strike caused the battery circuits to trip off, however the batteries were re-set by the crew. There was arcing damage to the radome, fuselage, propellers, and wingtip.
