1999-10-12: The aircraft C-GEEE was crop spraying when the engine failed. The pilot reported that a loss of engine power occurred which resulted in a forced landing into a field in the vicinity of Shellbrook, SK which is located 60 kilometers west of Prince Albert for those geographers out there! TSB were notified and are pursuing the cause of the engine malfunction. The extent of damage was not reported although the ELT did activate. Update to follow. OPI - Maintenance & Manufacturing UPDATE TSB reported that THE PILOT OF A PIPER PA 25, REGISTRATION C-GEEE, HAD JUST COME OUT OF A BANK AND WAS ABOUT TO MAKE ANOTHER SWEEP OVER A WHEAT FIELD WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. THE PILOT THEN FORCE LANDED THE AIRCRAFT IN THE FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS, PROPELLER AND TORE OUT THE LEFT GEAR. THE ELT WAS ACTIVATED AND TURNED OFF A SHORT WHILE LATER. THE PILOT INDICATED HE HAD ABOUT 25 GALLONS OF FUEL ON BOARD AT THE TIME. UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that they contacted owner Aug.03/99 and the a/c was still in a farmer's yard waiting for insurance adjuster's decision. Contacted owner again Oct.07/99 and he now is in the process of removing the engine for shipment to an O/H facility for internal inspection. Owner reports no external reason could be found for the engine stoppage. The fuel system, including tanks and carb bowl, were inspected for contamination. No debris or presence of water was found. Owner will submit an SDR when results of the engine inspection are known.
