Accident at St. Andrews, MB

Summary

1999-07-19: C-GGIK, a Mooney 20F, with a pilot and three passengers departed from Runway 18 at St. Andrews on a local sightseeing flight. The a/c was observed climbing slowly away from the runway and when it was about 1 mile south of the airport, descended rapidly to the ground. The a/c impacted on the lawn of a home in a residential area of St. Andrews. Three of the occupants were fatally injured at the time of the accident and the fourth person died a short time later in hospital. Local fire, RCMP and investigators from the TSB responded to the scene. Weather was not a factor, although the temperature was about 27 degrees C with high humidity. The a/c has been removed to a hangar at St. Andrews Airport, where investigators are examining it for mechanical anomalies. More information may be available later. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB investigators have determined that the fuel system had water contamination.
