Incident at Calgary, AB

Summary

1999-07-07: The crew of AAL, an MD-80, reported a bird strike on final approach to Runway 34 at Calgary. There was no reported damage to the a/c. OPI - Aerodrome Safety UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the bird struck by the AAL MD-80 was a California Gull. Bird control staff were on the airfield actively controlling birds at the time of the strike. Heavy rains over the last few days brought out the worms and many of the gulls were feeding. Staff were also sweeping the manouvering surfaces.
