Incident at Vicinity of Rocky Mountain House, AB (TCAS alert, Conflict - loss of separation)

Summary

2000-05-17: KAL 282, a B747, was enroute IFR from Dallas to Anchorage, cleared Lethbridge direct Grande Prairie at FL 280. CDR 1403, an F28, had departed Edmonton International enroute to Vancouver, climbing to FL 280. The tracks of both aircraft crossed approximately 8 miles south of the Rocky Mountain House VOR. The Red Deer/ Rocky controller was distracted with an arrival problem north of Calgary (vicinity of TORON). The controller recognized the confliction between KAL 282 and CDR 1403 when the aircraft were approximately 7 miles apart at the same altitude. Both aircraft were issued vectors and KAL 282 climbed to FL 290 in response to a TCAS advisory. Spacing was reduced to 4 miles and 1000 feet where 5 miles or 1000 feet is required. OPI - ANS and Airspace UPDATE ANS reported that NAVCANADA held a Fact Finding Board.
