Incident at Calgary, AB

1999-05-31: GOA 83, a Beech 200 King Air, departed from Runway 16 at Calgary (YYC) on an IFR flight to Edmonton and shortly after takeoff, the crew reported a southbound helicopter about 1 mile south of the departure end of the runway. The Controller recognized the helicopter as C-FALA, which had not received takeoff clearance from YYC. The crew of GOA 83 turned to the right to avoid the helicopter. Radar analysis revealed the separation between the two a/c was .22 miles and 300 feet. The pilot of the helicopter reported that she thought she had received takeoff clearance. OPI - Enforcement
