Accident at Oscar Lake, NT

Summary

1999-05-05: The pilot of C-FGIJ, a Cessna 140 on skis with one passenger, landed on the frozen surface of Oscar Lake after a VFR flight from Norman Wells and during the roll-out at slow speed, a ski apparently encountered a snow drift and the a/c nosed over onto its back. The occupants were able to exit the a/c uninjured. The ELT activated and the pilot transmitted a message to Norman Wells FSS on a hand-held radio. The pilot provided a statement to the local RCMP and more information may be available. OPI - System Safety
