Incident at 8 NM NE of Calgary, AB (Conflict - loss of separation, ATS operating irregularity)

Summary

1999-05-03: CDN 960, a B737, departed from Runway 34 at Calgary, and the Departure Controller issued the crew a heading of 090 degrees and clearance to FL 250. It was intended that CDN 960 would pass in front of ACA 270, which was inbound from the north for Runway 28. As the distance between the two a/c closed, the Departure Controller vectored CDN 960 to the right to a heading of 110 degrees and the Arrival Controller vectored ACA 270 left to 110 degrees to parallel CDN 960. Lateral separation was reduced to 2.2 miles and less than 1,000 feet vertical, when 3 miles is the required standard. OPI - ANS and Airspace
