Incident at Whitehorse, YT

Summary

2000-04-13: N123GA, an Ayers S-2R, departed Whitehorse International Airport for Watson Lake and shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported oil on the windshield. He advised that he was returning and ERS was on standby as the a/c landed safely at 1611Z. No other a/c were inconvenienced. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE M. & M. reported that the hydromatic prop which this aircraft runs on its R1340 engine has a Teflon wiper on the blade root which also acts as an o-ring backup ring. Apparently it is not uncommon for this wiper to be ejected from the prop allowing oil to pass by the o-ring on the blade root. Since this is what happened, the prop was removed, sent out to a propeller shop, repaired, and re-installed on the aircraft.
