Incident at 66 NM E of Snowdrift, NT

Summary

1999-04-14: C-FOPE, a DHC-2 Turbo Beaver with a pilot and two passengers, was on a VFR charter flight from Nowak Lake, NT (61 54N - 98 25W) to Yellowknife (YZF) when it was reported as overdue by the operator on the evening of April 13. The operator notified RCC Trenton, which dispatched a CC-130 Hercules from CFB Winnipeg to search for the a/c. The Hercules crew located the missing a/c on the morning of April 14 about 66 miles east of the village of Snowdrift. The pilot reported that he had landed as a precaution because of poor weather. The three occupants were not injured and were able to spend the night in the a/c. With VFR weather on the morning of April 14, the pilot departed for Yellowknife and C-FOPE landed safely at YZF at 1515Z. OPI - System Safety
