Incident at Prince Albert, SK (Electrical problem, Aerodrome - power failure)


1999-04-19: A commercial power failure occurred at the Prince Albert Airport at 0238Z and the backup EPU did not provide standby power as required. The EPU is owned by the City of Prince Albert. The FSS, VOR/DME and airport lighting were unserviceable for about 20 minutes until normal power was restored. The City will test their EPU equipment today. Weather at the time of the failure was VFR. OPI - Aerodrome Safety UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the main switch that switches from commercial power to the standby generator appears to have malfunctioned. A planned power outage is being co-ordinated for this Sunday in order to carry out repairs. The outage will be re-scheduled if there is inclement weather because the runway lighting and most of the navigation aids will be affected. UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the maintenance work to the main electrical switch occurred on Sunday as planned and the switch will now function correctly.
