Incident at Whitehorse, YT

1999-04-16: The pilot of C-GQZI, a Cessna 177, was on approach to Runway 13R at Whitehorse International Airport when he reported smoke in the cockpit. The pilot landed the a/c safely and later reported that a new muffler installation may be the source of the problem. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE M. & M. reported that the pilot had a new muffler installed prior to the flight and the smell of the new muffler apparently scared him. He reported smoke in the cockpit to ATC and returned to land. Maintenance inspection revealed no fire. There was also no actual smoke in the cockpit, just a new, unusual smell associated with the new muffler.
