Incident at MOOSE JAW / AIR VICE MARSHAL C.M. McEWEN SK (CYMJ)

Summary

1999-03-16: The pilot of N3695P, a Piper Cub, departed North Dakota intending to land at Moose Jaw Municipal Airport, located 7 NM northeast of the city. A flight plan was reportedly filed in North Dakota, but was not opened for unknown reasons. The pilot had requested Canadian Customs and thought they would be available at the military base, 5 NM south of the city. The pilot landed at CFB Moose Jaw without authorization and without radio contact with the Tower. Tower personnel attempted to contact the pilot on Tower, Ground, Guard, and the Municipal frequencies, without success. The a/c's arrival at CFB Moose Jaw interfered with local training, however there were no incidents. Upon arrival, it was determined that the pilot's hand-held radio was inoperative. The a/c was subsequently seized by Canada Customs and searched. OPI - Enforcement
