Incident at 3 NM E of Rocky Mountain House, AB

Summary

1999-03-11: N3032G, a Forney 1A (single-engine, 2 seater), was enroute VFR (no flight plan) from Watson Lake to Calgary with a pilot and one passenger. When the a/c was about 3 miles east of Rocky Mountain House, the pilot contacted Edmonton Terminal and reported he was on top of cloud and needed assitance. The pilot indicated the only reliable navigation equipment in the a/c was a hand-held GPS and he was IFR rated. The Controller provided vectors to the pilot to Runway 02 at Edmonton and the pilot was able to see the runway lights at 2800 feet ASL and 3 miles. The a/c landed safely at 0653Z.
