Incident at 350 NM NE of Winnipeg, MB

Summary

1999-03-02: BAW 283, a B747, was enroute from Heathrow to Los Angeles and was about 350 miles northeast of Winnipeg when the crew informed ACC of multiple electrical failures on board. The failures were described as non-threatening but the crew indicated that they were going to divert to Winnipeg. Approximately 20 minutes later, the crew advised that they had decided to continue to destination. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that the crew observed a circuit breaker pop, followed by multiple EICAS warnings and status messages. On company engineering advice, the circuit breaker was re-set, but it immediately popped again. The Captain planned a precautionary diversion to Winnipeg, but about 45 minutes later with engineering advice, the breaker was re-set again and this time it remained set. The EICAS warning messages disappeared, so the Captain elected to continue to destination. After arrival in Los Angeles, circuit breaker # 8839 was replaced and two breakers, K1 and K6 were interchanged to resolve the problem.
