Accident at Blair Lake, SK

Summary

1999-02-18: The pilot of C-GQKS, a DHC-2 Beaver on skis, was transporting 3 passengers from Laroque Lake to Blair Lake. The weather conditions at Blair Lake were clear skies, bright sunshine and wind out of the west. The pilot was landing into the sun and into wind on the frozen lake, and after touchdown, he realized that he had landed long and didn't have sufficient distance to stop or overshoot. The a/c contacted rocks and trees as it ran up onto the shoreline and it sustained substantial damage. The 4 occupants were not injured. The company plans to do temporary repairs at the site and ferry the a/c back to base. OPI - System Safety
