Accident at Jackfish Lake, AB

1999-02-16: The pilot of C-FRZB, a Piper Colt, departed Twin Island Air Park on a VFR sightseeing flight with one passenger. On arrival over Jackfish Lake, the passenger requested several passes over his father-in-law's cottage to take photos. During the turns, the passenger became nauseous and the pilot elected to land the wheel-equipped a/c on the snow-covered lake where the snow had been packed down by snowmobiles. On touchdown the gear collapsed and the a/c overturned onto its back. There were no injuries, but the a/c was substantially damaged. OPI - System Safety
