Incident at 5 NM W of Portage La Prairie (Southport), MB

Summary

1999-02-09: The pilot of Sundance 18, a Slingsby Firefly, was on a local VFR training flight when he declared an emergency because of a stuck throttle. The pilot landed safely at 1548Z with ERS on standby. The a/c was towed off the runway to the hangar, where maintenance found that the carburetor pump discharge tube assembly had come loose and caused the throttle to stick. The carburetor had been delivered with the engine direct from Lycoming and had been in service just over 50 hours. Maintenance replaced the carburetor and will submit an SDR to Transport Canada.
