Incident at Calgary, AB


1999-02-04: The pilot of C-GJEF, a Piper Navajo, was conducting a local VFR training flight in the Calgary (YYC) area when he reported that he had had to shut down one engine for unspecified reasons. He advised that he was returning to YYC and requested priority. The a/c subsequently landed uneventfully at 2235Z. Eight other a/c were delayed for up to 10 minutes during the occurrence. OPI - Maintenance and Manufacturing UPDATE M. & M. reported that the instructor pilot shut down the right engine when he observed oil on the cowling. It was later reported that the student pilot had not secured the engine oil cap prior to the flight.
