Incident at PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE / SOUTHPORT MB (CYPG)

Summary

1999-02-01: The student pilot of C-GSTH, a Slingsby Firefly, reported inbound from the west practice area with high oil temperature and low oil pressure. The pilot landed without difficulty and stopped on the taxiway, from where the a/c was towed to the hangar. Maintenance found that the pilot had been flying with the oil cooler door closed, which caused the oil temperature to rise beyond normal. The cockpit is placarded with a notice to open the oil cooler door when outside air temperatures are above -15 degrees C. OPI - System Safety
