Incident at Winnipeg, MB

1999-01-12: CAV 1564, a Saab 340, was inbound to Dryden after a flight from Winnipeg (YWG) with 12 people on board when the crew observed an unsafe right main gear indication on approach. The crew circled over the Dryden Airport for 14 minutes in an attempt to correct the problem, without success. They then decided to divert to Thunder Bay, but subsequently decided to return to Winnipeg. On arrival at YWG, they conducted 2 fly-pasts of the Tower and circled to the west of the airport, apparently unable to remedy the situation. A major standby of ERS was declared and the crew commenced an approach to Runway 18. The flight landed safely at 1637Z and taxied to the ramp. Several IFR arrivals were delayed during the occurrence. TSB has been advised and more information will be available. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that the problem was traced to a stuck right main gear indication switch. The switch was lubricated, exercised and found to operate normally.
