Incident at Regina, SK

Summary

1999-01-08: ACA 103, an A320, departed Regina for Toronto and shortly after takeoff, the crew reported that a landing gear door would not close properly. They decided to proceed to Winnipeg (YWG) instead of Toronto, and the flight landed uneventfully at YWG at 2214Z. This may be a cold weather-related problem that has affected numerous a/c in the region in the last couple of weeks. TSB has been advised and more information may be available. OPI - System Safety UPDATE TSB reported that when the crew selected gear up, they observed that the nose gear doors were not closing properly. Company maintenance in Winnipeg determined that the number 2 landing gear control interface unit (LGCIU) had displayed a faulty indication. They replaced the number 2 LGCIU and returned the a/c to service. The a/c completed the remaining scheduled flights without problem and returned to Winnipeg at the end of the day. During completion of A check inspection requirements, maintenance found that a landing gear door proximity sensor had experienced a fault. It is probable that the initial LGCIU problem resulted from this fault with the sensor. Maintenance replaced the sensor and released the a/c for service.
