Incident at Charlottetown PEI


1999-12-03: ANU303 SW3 departing Charlottetown for Sydney when pilot reported a possible Engine Fire and returned to Charlottetown. Aircraft stopped on the runway. ERS performed inspection. One engine was restarted and the aircraft taxied to ramp. Emergency secured 1448z. TSB case closed. A99A0159: ANU303, AN SW3 WAS DEPARTING ON A SCHEDULED CARGO FLIGHT FROM CHARLOTTETOWN TO SYDNEY. JUST AFTER ROTATION, THE CREW NOTED A FIRE LIGHT FOR THE RIGHT ENGINE. AS THERE WAS NO VISIBLE FIRE AND THERE WERE STRONG CROSS-WINDS AT CHARLOTTETOWN, THE CREW ELECTED TO KEEP BOTH ENGINES RUNNING, CIRCLED, AND LANDED BACK ON RUNWAY 03 AT CHARLOTTETOWN. ERS WERE STANDING BY. THE ENGINE AND COMPARTMENT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY INSPECTED, AND NO FAULT WAS FOUND. THE COMPANY WILL BE FILING AN SDR WITH TRANSPORT CANADA. Update: Dec 3, 1999 The operator reported that, after further examination of the engine area, a small piece of metallic tape was found adhering to a sensor in the engine comparment. Metallic tape is not used in the compartment, and the company believes that the tape was picked up as FOD at some point. TSB File A99A0159
