Incident at GANDER INTL NL (CYQX)

Summary

1999-11-04: According to the Operator, LTU Luftransport-Unternehman GMBH & Co., the aircraft was sub-chartered from Lauda air. The flight was to be from Dusseldorf to Cancun, Mexico with 214 passengers and nine crew. The flight was delayed on departure from Dusseldorf for 3 hours and 50 minutes because of customs. Later, there were routing changes due to en route weather, and a fuel stop in Gander became necessary. During the landing the captain noted that a reverser (which engine is unclear) hadn¿t closed entirely, remaining open three centimetres. The passengers were deplaned for the re-fuelling, and the reversers were locked in place. The aircraft departed 03 November for Cancun. The flight was operating under an LTU flight number, with an LTU pilot; however the aircraft is owned by Lauda.and is Austrian registered. Gander Centre and tower were unaware of the thrust reverser issues, and did not see any reason to report the routine diversion. TSB case closed. TSB file # A99A0154
