Incident at Enroute New-York to Athens

Summary

1999-10-15: OAL412 B747 enroute New York to Athens advised ATC that they had experienced a couple of updrafts which had caused the aircraft to climb 500 feet. COA78 DC10 was in trafiic at 34,000 feet. Separation achieved was 500 feet vertical and 8 minutes longitudinal. Separation required is 1,000 feet vertical or 10 minutes longitudinal. Traffic behind OAL412 were notified of event and no other aircraft reported the same flight conditions. TSB case closed Update : TSB file # A99A0138
