Incident at St. John's NF

Summary

1999-09-29: ACA630 A320 landing St. John's NF Runway 29 pilot reported possible clip of barriers marking the displaced threshold. Field crew inspected area and found several broken barriers. Aircraft inspection revealed some Brake Line damage. Weather conditions may have been a factor. One other arriving aircraft was delayed 10 minutes. TSB evaluating. Update: The St.John's weather was reported as wind 250 degrees at 28 knots gusting to 39 knots, visibility 12 miles in light drizzle, ceiling 1400 feet overcast. A weather warning was issued at 0322z advising of occasional severe Mechanical turbulence was not received in the Low Level Sector in Gander Centre in time to be passed to ACA630 before it landed at 0325z. The flight data recorder has been sent to the TSB engineering branch and crew reports have been requested. Further information will be added after this data has been evaluated. TSB file # A99A0131
